HELP TO IMPROVE GAS MILEAGE

  1. Check your tire pressure at least once a month. Under-inflated tires can negatively impact vehicle performance, tread life and fuel efficiency.

  2. Check that your air filter isn’t clogged. Replacing a clogged air filter can improve a car’s gas mileage by as much as 10 percent.

  3. Avoid overloading your car. Extra weight reduces fuel economy.

  4. Use the grade of motor oil recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

  5. Make sure your car is properly tuned. Regular vehicle maintenance can improve gas mileage by an average of 4.1 percent.

  6. Make sure your gas cap is on tight and is not damaged.

  7. Avoid quick or “jackrabbit” starts and stops, which can reduce your gas mileage by 33 percent on the highway and 5 percent in the city.

  8. Observe the speed limit; gas mileage decreases rapidly above 60 miles per hour.
