New Eagle GT leads the way in recent media coverage

The new Eagle GT is already garnering attention from various outlets, which have been writing about the high performance tire’s eye-catching tread and sidewall design.

Especially targeted at the “tuner” segment – those who consider their car a form of self-expression and pride – the Eagle GT was described by Performance Auto & Sound magazine as “an ultra-high performance tire, with an aggressive tread and clean sidewalls.”

Mike Maez, of Modified magazine wrote, “While many enthusiasts in our particular market segment (tuner cars, sport compacts) consider the inevitable decision of which tire manufacturer to spend their hard-earned dollars, rarely do they consider Goodyear. With the new Eagle GT, however, Goodyear is aiming to change all of that.”

Additional coverage is expected in several other auto enthusiast magazines, along with key enthusiast websites.

Goodyear Wranglers are early-season winners in off-road competition

For a brand built upon toughness and confidence to “Get there,” Goodyear Wrangler tires continue to hammer home that point with several victories this summer in off-road racing events. Goodyear-equipped vehicles took multiple checkered flags at the World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) in mid-July, as winners included:

Jerry Daugherty             PRO 4×4 series

John Mason                  PRO Super Buggy Race

Tim Moeller                   Formula 4 x 4 division

The July wins followed Goodyear success in the WSORR at the June competition, held at the legendary Crandon Raceway in Crandon, WI. There, Kent Brascho drove his Lucas Oil Goodyear Chevrolet to victory in the 15th Annual Forest County Potawatomi Chairman’s Cup Challenge Race – the first time in more than a decade that Goodyear had won the race.

Other winners included:

Tim Lemon                    PRO Super Buggy

Keith Steele                  SRT Super Stock Truck Class

Goodyear’s many wins are recognized by off-road enthusiasts who consistently compete in the dirt and mud environment and serves as a great testimonial to the Wrangler brand.

On Friday, June 20th, Black’s Tire & Auto Service hosted its seventh annual Boys and Girls Homes Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the children of Boys and Girls Homes at Myrtle Beach National Golf Course.  Assisting Black’s Tire and Auto in hosting the tournament were Cooper Tires, 94.9 The Surf, Hog Slat, Cox Furniture Warehouse, BB&T, BF Goodrich Tire, J.H. Honeycutt Produce, U 1st, Titan Tire, Heintz Performance, Falken Tire, Harold W. Wells & Son, Inc. Insurance, Goodyear Tire, Hankook Tire, Ultimate Graphics, Dilmar Oil, East Coast Race Tire, and CARQUEST Auto Parts.

One hundred five players participated in the 2008 event to raise funds to support the children living at Boys and Girls Homes.  In addition to the tournament’s major sponsors, the more than seventy four hole-sponsors, donors, and players raised $50,200 for the Homes.  The golf tournament was held prior to the United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) Hooters Pro Cup Greased Lightning 250 auto race on June 21 at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Black’s Tire & Auto Service is a regular participant in the race series and placed two cars in this year’s event, one of them winning the coveted pole starting position.  Since the first event in 2002, more than $227,000 has been raised through the golf tournaments. Black’s Tire and Auto Service owner Ricky Benton, Dianne Benton, Ryan Benton, Rick Benton, Jr., Daniel Outlaw,  Dee Dee Green and other members of the Benton family and Black’s Tire & Auto Service staff coordinated the golf event.

In ceremonies held prior to the Greased Lightning 250 at Myrtle Beach Speedway, the proceeds from the 2008 golf event were presented.  Pictured above are Ricky Benton, Jr. (2nd left) of Black’s Tire, BB&T Vice President Evan Gore (4th  left), Boys and Girls Homes Executive Vice President Larry Hewett, (6th from left), Ryan Benton (1st from right) of Black’s Tire, the Black’s tire children, and others who were on hand for the presentation of the golf proceeds.

In addition to the funds raised by the event, the children of Boys and Girls Homes were admitted to the Greased Lightning 200 compliments of Black’s Tire Service, the Myrtle Beach Speedway, and USAR, and treated to the Black’s Tire Service hospitality tent prior to the race.  Larry Hewett of Boys and Girls Homes noted that “Black’s Tire Service has a legacy in serving the children of Boys and Girls Homes and the children are very fortunate to have the support of that organization.

The golf and race weekend continues to be the largest single corporate event of its kind for the Homes and the efforts of Ricky and Dianne, their family, and the staff at Black’s Tire for the children is tremendous.  Not only do the children benefit from the dollars that are contributed to the Homes as a result of the golf event, they also get to attend the race and all its festivities.  And very importantly the mission of the Homes and its work for children is highlighted for the numerous businesses and race teams that support the event and to the thousands of fans that attend the race and watch on television.

One can clearly see that children and family are important to Ricky, his family, and all the staff of Black’s Tire.”  Speaking on behalf of Black’s Tire, Ricky Benton stated that “We are proud to give our support to an organization whose mission is to help children who need someone to be involved in their lives.  If we can help even one child overcome their hurts and have opportunities to be productive, then we are all better off for it.”

To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter in response to the service I received in your store on June 28th, 2008. I am from the Indianapolis Indiana metro area and was on vacation in Ocean Isle, North Carolina this past week. My family was returning home and was passing through Dillon on our way to I-95. We pulled up to an intersection in town and noticed a loud, screeching sound coming from the passenger side front tire. I believed this was not a simple brake problem and thought the problem could be serious. I was traveling with my wife, and my two sons (4) and (2) years of age and pictured a major car expense and a hotel room in Dillon in my future. Our goal was to drive the entire distance in one day to make it home by 9 or 10pm, and this vehicle break down could jeopardize this. I pulled into your store and was given superior service on a Saturday morning. I believe the technicians name was T.J. who fixed our tire by replacing a bolt that had broken on the passenger side front tire. I would like to thank all of the gentlemen at Black’s Tire for an excellent job, and to let them know we made it home around 9:30pm Indiana time and slept in our own beds. Being from the Midwest I have only heard of Southern hospitality but was able to experience this first hand on June 28th, 2008 in Dillon, South Carolina. If I was the owner of Black’s Tire Service I would be proud to have all four of these men working for me in my community. Being a police officer I feel makes me a good judge of character and these men seemed to enjoy helping people fix problems that may seem small to them but major to the rest of the world.

Sincerely,
Trent, Danielle, Luke, and Levi Smoll
Greenfield, IN
