Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s truck servicing program, FleetHQ is the sponsor of NASCAR driver Dennis Setzer’s Camping World Truck Series No. 92 FleetHQ/BTS Tire & Wheel Distributors Chevrolet Silverado racing truck. “We’re excited and proud to debut our FleetHQ truck with a veteran NASCAR driver with 18 wins under his belt,” said Ricky Benton Sr., owner of Black’s Tire Service, RBR Motorsports and BTS Racing. Black’s Tire Service is campaigning the truck in the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and has 18 commercial tire locations and a retreading plant in North and South Carolina. Benton also owns BTS Tire & Wheel Distributors, a local wholesale distributor of commercial and passenger tires, and have offered motorsports services such as maintenance, tire installation and sorting and stocking of parts and tires for race teams. Benton’s RBR Motorsports has teamed up with several veteran and rookie NASCAR drivers in various racing series, including the United Speed Alliance Racing Pro Cup Series. “In the past, we have supported drivers before they’ve gone on to compete in the major series,” Benton said. “(We’ve supported) drivers such as Matt Carter, son of NASCAR veteran Travis Carter and the 2004 USARacing Pro Cup Series rookie of the year and the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie of the year, (who) went on to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.” “Racing has become more than a hobby or a past-time for our family and our employees, it’s also become a way for us to connect with each other, our customers and our community,” said Rick Benton Jr., who also serves as vice president of sales and marketing for Black’s Tire. “Racing’s become an integral part of our company’s marketing strategy.”

Martinsville, VA – The #92 RBR team was forced to load up Friday and come back home after the rain forced NASCAR to cancel qualifying. The skies were overcast throughout the day as testing went well for the #92 fleetHQ / BTS Tire & Wheel Distributors team. Driver, Dennis Setzer was very comfortable in the truck and was sitting 15th fastest on the practice charts. As qualifying time approached so did the rain. After waiting out the weather for a couple hours, NASCAR had no choice but to cancel the qualifying and start the race by owner points. This was not good for the RBR Team as they are new to the circuit and had no owner points to fall back on.

“We really wish the weather had cooperated with us”, said team owner Ricky Benton. “The team worked well together all day and Dennis was very good in practice. We all felt we would be able to qualify in the top ten pretty easily but the weather was out of our control.” Kevin Harvick, after being fastest in practice, went on to win the Kroger 250 at the Martinsville Speedway.

Concord, NC – May 1, 2009 – USARacing Pro Cup Series driver, Drew Herring, is on top of his game after pulling off a spectacular win in the Sunoco 250 at South Georgia Motorsports Park on April 25. The 21-year-old Benson, NC native captured the Strutmasters.com pole and became the seventh different winner in as many races after leading 137 laps and earning his very first victory in the USARacing Pro Cup Series.

A week has passed but Herring is still riding high on a performance which has boosted him to the top seat in the Pro Cup Series point standings.

“I couldn’t feel any better about that win, it’s awesome,” said the driver of the No. 22s BTS Tire&Wheel Distributors Ford Fusion. “There were several times last year where we were so close, so close, and I felt like we should have had two or three wins. But, of course, it didn’t go that way for us then so this win is redemption for our team. These guys deserved it; they worked hard all weekend.”

Herring is quick to credit crew chief, Mike Hester, for the team’s recent success. “I’ve said it before, there’s nobody that can put a car together like Mike Hester. He’s amazing, he knows everything about them. He brought a perfect car to South Georgia; it was on a rail from the time we unloaded. We did only minor tweaking on it all weekend. It’s rare to have a car that you just unload and its lightning fast like that car was.”

Herring is looking for the momentum of the team’s first Pro Cup win of 2009 to carry them to the next stop on the Series schedule, Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA. on May 23. The Pro Cup Series last competed at the .4-mile Speedway in May, 1998.

“I’m trying to get my mind set back and get ready for the race at Langley,” he said. “We’ve got that coming up so it’s anybody’s game again. We’re going to test there just to run some laps because I’ve never seen the track and Mike’s never seen the track, so it’s going to be pretty interesting. But I know I’ve got the right people behind me to get out there and get the job done so I’m looking forward to it.”

This young superstar is only in his second season of competition with the USAR Pro Cup Series, but he’s hardly a rookie racer. Herring’s career began in 1998 at age ten when his parents purchased a Bandolero car for him to race. “I was invited to run the very first Bandolero race and I finished third,” said Herring. “My parents bought the second Bandolero car they ever sold. I had always been interested in racing, I always watched it on Sunday?speed, that’s just me. So after my first race in the Bandolero car, I was hooked.”

Herring spent the next ten years competing in the Bandolero series, the Allison Legacy ranks, Late Model Stocks, and running for various track championships before competing full time in the USARacing Pro Cup Series in 2008. “I’m very proud of my accomplishments in every series I have run,” he said. “Each was a necessary stepping stone that has provided me with the experience to run competitively in the Pro Cup Series. I love this Series and I enjoy racing with these guys. The competition level challenges your abilities and that’s what racing is all about.”

Herring feels fortunate to have the support from his parents, Mark and Sylvia Herring. “My parents are the best parents in the world,” Herring said. “I absolutely love both of them for all that they’ve done for me; they’ve been there for me since day one. They’re behind me 110% in whatever I want to do and I’m truly blessed to have the family that I have.”

Black’s Tire Service (BTS Tire&Wheel Distributor) provides sponsorship to the No. 22s team. In addition, BTS will be the presenting sponsor for the Pro Cup Series race at Myrtle Beach Speedway on June 20.

“Ricky and Diane Benton and everyone at Black’s Tire Service are just a great group of people,” states Herring. “Every year they host a charity golf tournament a few days before the Myrtle Beach race to benefit the Boys and Girls Homes of NC. This year’s tournament is scheduled for June 19 at Myrtle Beach National Golf Club. I’m real excited to be involved with Mr. Ricky, period. He does so many good things for the community and he’s such a great guy. We are so proud to have their support for our racing program.”

You can catch Drew Herring and the No. 22s BTS Tire&Wheel Distributors team at the next USARacing Pro Cup Series event scheduled for May 23 at Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA.

Cecil, GA (April 25, 2009) – It was a steaming hot day at the South Georgia Motorsports Park on Saturday for the Sunoco 250, and things continued to heat up on the track as the green flag waved for the second race of the 2009 season. The track crowned its seventh different winner in as many races when polesitter, Drew Herring, took the win after leading 137 laps and earning his very first victory in the USARacing Pro Cup Series.

“This really is a great victory for us,” commented the driver of the No. 22 BTS Tire&Wheel Distributors Ford Fusion. “This win was a long time coming.”

Herring brought the field to the green and dominated the first 137 laps before giving up the lead to come into the pits for fresh tires. Back out on the track and back in the pack, Herring would have to work his way back up through the field. The No. 54s of Clay Rogers, who was leading at the time, hit the wall on the frontstretch on lap 242, handing the lead to Herring with just seven laps to go.

“I really didn’t want to win like that and I’m glad Clay is alright,” said Herring. “I wanted to race him for the win. I just really want to thank everyone for making this happen and for standing behind me.”

The day began with a clean practice session as the track began to get toasty by the time qualifying began. Drew Herring posted the quickest lap time and was awarded the http://www.Strutmasters.com Pole Award.

“We were really fast all day,” Herring said. “I think we would have been disappointed if we didn’t get the pole. Now we just have to go out there and keep our nose clean and bring home a good finish.”

As the start of the race approached, the field lined up in the “Missing Man” formation on the frontstretch for the autograph session before the race in memory of former Pro Cup competitor, Matt Hawkins, who lost his life earlier this year.

“He was a good friend and a good competitor,” commented Derek Kale, driver of the No. 22n Heritage Truck Centers Chevy Impala. “We all have memory decals on the car this weekend. It’s a cool thing to remember him by.”

The green flag waves and with only one caution in the first 54 laps of the Sunoco 250, Herring looked to have the car to beat without much pressure from behind. But once that second caution flag flew, the spins and cautions kept on flying, tightening up the field each time. The No. 06s USG Sheetrock Ford Fusion of Bobby Gill was able to pull up to the back bumper of Herring, but was unable to pull off the pass when another caution came out for the No. 22s who had spun in Turn 2.

Most of the lead lap cars come into pit on lap 133 except the No. 00 of Rookie, Lucas Ransone, and No. 15s of Bill Plemons. Ransone would lead for the next 21 laps before a tire issue put him into the wall in Turn 2. This would allow Plemons to lead the race for nearly 46 laps when Clay Rogers would then take over the lead.

Rogers seemed to be taking off once taking the lead, but the No. 73n of Jeff Agnew had a Victory in mind. It was a heated battle between the two for several laps when Agnew suddenly developed a vibration, causing him to drop back through the field.

Despite the already caution-filled race, there was one more caution to be had and that belonged to the leader of Rogers. Rogers hits the wall hard and brings out a red flag. It also brings Herring back to the lead. Herring makes one last clean restart and is able to hold off the No. 28s of Billy Bigley, Jr. for the win and a champagne celebration in Victory Lane.

Next up for the USARacing Pro Cup Series is Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA on Saturday, May 23rd.

After an anxious off-season, wondering if the Pro Cup Series would come back to life in 2009, Drew Herring headed to Concord Speedway (NC) Saturday for the debut of the new USARacing Pro Cup Series. While he didn’t drive his #22 BTS Tire & Wheel Distributors Ford to victory lane, Herring started off his year with a fifth-place finish.

After starting third, Herring was confident in his car and had looked towards taking the checkered flag first, but the handling went away, forcing him to fade back in the pack. Even so, he was able to keep his car pointed in the right direction and stay out of trouble all the way to the checkered flag, unlike some of his competitors on the track.

“We will take a top five. It is definitely not what we wanted,” said Herring. “We thought we had a shot there at the win at one time, but the car was like flipping a switch. It got really wicked loose there and I did all I could to keep it underneath me. It could have been worse. We could be loaded up in a box like Clay (Rogers) was. He had the dominate car here tonight. We kept our car in one piece and finished better than we did last year in the first race, so we have to just look at the positives.”

Despite not being the first to cross the finish line, Herring is confident he will have a few winners’ trophies throughout the season after seeing the effort his team put forth in the series opener.

“I know we can win some races here, so we are going to keep doing what we are doing and work hard. We will be there. I am proud of all the guys for working hard this weekend. We will take the fifth-place finish and head to South Georgia.”

Next up for Herring and the #22 team is the USAR Pro Cup Series event at South Georgia Motorsports Park (GA) on Saturday, April 25th.

Harvick’s part time Nationwide Series driver, Tony Stewart had the honor during last season’s ARCA race at the historic track.

Harvick will be making the trip to Rockingham following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway where he will be driving the No. 29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet on Saturday night.

Kevin Harvick Incorporated will also field a car in the Carolina 200 with Ricky Carmichael getting his first laps at the one-mile speedway.

“Throwing the green flag at Rockingham will definitely be a new experience for me,” said the 2007 Daytona 500 winner. “In all my years of racing, I’ve never been asked to be the honorary starter. I’m also looking forward to the ARCA race. It will be Ricky’s (Carmichael) first time at Rockingham so he should be exciting to watch.”

Rockingham Speedway President, Andy Hillenburg was all smiles after hearing about the Carolina 200’s honorary starter.

“Here at Rockingham, it’s all about our fans and racing, and to have a driver that has won races in the sports biggest three series this year, backs that up,” said Hillenburg. “We are very honored that Kevin accepted and with him making an all night trip to get back from Phoenix really shows how much he cares about the fans.”

Carolina 200 race weekend kicks off on Friday April 17th with Thunderfest in downtown Rockingham from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. There will be a hauler parade through downtown Rockingham at noon on Friday for the day-long celebration as well as most of the drivers signing autographs at 6:00 p.m.

On track activities begin Friday as well with UARA practice and qualifying. Saturday April 18th will feature the UARA race and practice and qualifying for the ARCA cars. The Carolina 200 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday April 19th.

Sitting fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points has paid off for Chad McCumbee and the SS Green Light Racing team as Blacks Tire & Auto Service Centers have come aboard to support the teams #07 for Saturday afternoons Kroger 250 at the Martinsville Speedway as the team makes it’s 200th consecutive NCWTS start.

Due to limited sponsorship, McCumbee and the SS Green Light team had not planned to come to the seasons first short-track event when the original 2009 race schedule was laid-out but third and sixth place finishes at California and Atlanta boosted the team to fifth in the standings and the team went to work to keep the early season success rolling. With Blacks Tire & Auto Service coming aboard the team now has the necessary resources to compete in this weekend’s Kroger 250. “Up until a few days ago, we were not even sure if we were going to make the trip to Martinsville, but thanks to the support of Ricky Benton and the over thirty Blacks Tire & Auto Service locations we will be able to race,” Said McCumbee.

Blacks Tire & Auto Service has supported grass roots racing in the Carolina’s for many years. “They helped me with my Late Models at Myrtle Beach Speedway a few years back. Blacks Tire has been involved in the USARacing Series and they going to the presenting sponsor of the ARCA Carolina 200 at Rockingham next month so they understand how motorsports marketing can positively impact their business. I’m really proud to represent them this weekend in the Camping World Truck Series,” McCumbee explained. “I’ve always been a customer of Blacks Tire, it’s the only place I take my personal vehicles.”

Co-owner and crew chief Bobby Dotter is proud to see team’s consecutive race streak continue to 200 races. “I wouldn’t have thought back in 2001 at Daytona that SS Green Light Racing would not miss a race for eight years, I think I finished fourteenth that day. I hope we can give Blacks Tire a finish better than that for helping us keep the streak alive.”

Fellow co-owner Ken Smith is thankful for the support from Blacks Tire & Auto Service as he continues to search for the funding to run the full twenty-five-race NCWTS schedule. “Its fantastic that people who have supported Chad in the past are willing to come aboard to help us keep the SS Green Light team rolling this year,” said Smith. “Its that kind of loyalty and business mentality that we strive for in our partners. I’m pleased to have Blacks Tire on-board and I’m sure Chad, Bobby and the entire team will give their best effort for them.”

This will be the Chad’s 75th NCWTS start and 83rd career NASCAR start.

Chad has competed at Martinsville Speedway in the NCWTS on five previous occasions.

Chad finished 25th driving for Petty Enterprises in Marathon American Spirit Motor Oil #45 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville in the TUMS QuikPak 500.

Chad’s career best finish in the NCWTS was 2nd in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Lowes Motor Speedway on May 16, 2008.

After three events, Chad and the SS Green Light #07 team is currently 5th in NCWTS point standings, the highest position in the team’s eight-year history.

Chad’s thoughts on the Martinsville Speedway and the Kroger 250: “I’ve had a couple of pretty good runs at Martinsville in the past, but I don’t have a whole lot to show for it. We got wrecked while running in the top-five when I was here with Bobby back in 2007 so I kind of feel like this place owes us something. With the momentum we have over the last two races, I think we are in position to get a good finish for Blacks Tire and keep this SS Green Light Racing Chevy in the top five in points.”

Black’s Tire & Auto Service was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in Whiteville, NC. Black’s Tire Service operates 31 retail/commercial locations throughout the Carolinas and a wholesale division (BTS Tire & Wheel Distributors) with two distribution centers in Whiteville, NC and Charlotte, NC.
