Boys and Girls Homes of NC is a residential and foster care/adoption agency for neglected, abused, and hurting children. The children are provided safety and security in a home-like, family-style cottage with Teaching Parents who provide guidance, support and discipline. Educational opportunities are afforded through the Boys and Girls Homes School serving grades 5 – 12 and later, the opportunity to attend college or technical school is there. Spiritual needs are met through our Chapel ministry, staffed by a full-time Chaplain with all the influences of a non-denominational, Christian setting.

Early on, Black’s Tire was involved in the work of the Homes. Mr. Crowell Black served as a member of the original Board of Trustees. Since 2002, Ricky, Diane, their family and the staff of Black’s Tire have been coordinating and sponsoring a charity golf tournament in conjunction with the USA Race Series in Myrtle Beach. The tournament began with an idea to provide an outlet for the race teams visiting the area to relax and socialize. From that it became a means of supporting the positive work of Boys and Girls Homes. The tournament proceeds have grown from $6,000 in 2002 to an astounding $50,200 in 2008!

This year’s tournament is scheduled for June 19 at Myrtle Beach National Golf Club and is followed by the USA Race Series on Saturday, June 20. Tournament Sponsorships (Platinum – $3.500, Gold – $2,500, Silver – $1,500, Bronze – $1,000) include varying levels of signage at Myrtle Beach National Golf Club, hotel and hospitality opportunities at the race, and tickets to the race. Hole sponsorships are available for $500 (hole sign on golf course and race tickets) and $250 (hole sign on golf course). One hundred five players participated in the 2008 event to raise funds to support the children living at Boys and Girls Homes.  In addition to the tournament’s major sponsors, the more than seventy four hole-sponsors, donors, and players raised $50,200 for the Homes.  The golf tournament was held prior to the United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR) Hooters Pro Cup Greased Lightning 250 auto race on June 21 at Myrtle Beach Speedway.

Black’s Tire & Auto Service is a regular participant in the race series and placed two cars in this year’s event, one of them winning the coveted pole starting position.  Since the first event in 2002, more than $227,000 has been raised through the golf tournaments. Black’s Tire and Auto Service owner Ricky Benton, Dianne Benton, Ryan Benton, Rick Benton, Jr., Daniel Outlaw,  Dee Dee Green and other members of the Benton family and Black’s Tire & Auto Service staff coordinated the golf event.

In addition to the funds raised by the event, the children of Boys and Girls Homes were admitted to the Greased Lightning 200 compliments of Black’s Tire Service, the Myrtle Beach Speedway, and USAR, and treated to the Black’s Tire Service hospitality tent prior to the race.  Larry Hewett of Boys and Girls Homes noted that “Black’s Tire Service has a legacy in serving the children of Boys and Girls Homes and the children are very fortunate to have the support of that organization.

The golf and race weekend continues to be the largest single corporate event of its kind for the Homes and the efforts of Ricky and Dianne, their family, and the staff at Black’s Tire for the children is tremendous.  Not only do the children benefit from the dollars that are contributed to the Homes as a result of the golf event, they also get to attend the race and all its festivities.  And very importantly the mission of the Homes and its work for children is highlighted for the numerous businesses and race teams that support the event and to the thousands of fans that attend the race and watch on television.

In business since 1929, Black’s Tire Service is located in Whiteville, NC, with 31 locations including a central distribution center, 2 wholesale centers and 28 retail and commercial locations.  They are located throughout Southeastern North Carolina and Northeastern South Carolina.

“We plan on this being a big promotion for us all,” said Rick Benton.  “This year we are marketing with some strong partners and this should definitely be the largest promotion of the year surrounding a USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup Event.  The BTS Hospitality Village will feature several top corporate marketing partners. We have hosted the hospitality village every year since 1995 and we have seen it grow into a very big event.  The hospitality village is a great way to promote together with our customers, vendors, and business associates.  This year we are catering to around 3,000 guests. The hospitality event will feature a cookout, live band, giveaways to the first 500 guest, 2 live radio remotes, and a lot of fun for the entire family.”

In addition to hosting the hospitality event, Black’s Tire Service will host the 7th Annual Boys & Girls Home Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, June 20th.  In 2007, BTS and its partners raised over $45,000 for the Boys & Girls Home Charity.

BTS Charity Golf Tournament

WHITEVILLE, NC – RBR Enterprises along with BB&T, Carquest and Black’s Tire hosted the 7th Annual BTS Myrtle Beach Charity Golf Tournament on Friday, June 22nd . The Charity Golf Tournament raised a record over $40,000 for the Boys & Girls Home Charity.

The Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina, is a non-profit, non-sectarian home for children located at Lake Waccamaw, NC, approximately 38 miles west of Wilmington, NC and 50 miles north of Myrtle Beach, SC. They provide out-of-home child care for at-risk children in residential care, family foster care and emergency care placement. The program of care includes educational, social, and spiritual development.

golf photoOn Saturday, June 23rd, Black’s Tire and RBR Enterprises also held their 12th Annual Customer Appreciation Hospitality Village at Myrtle Beach Speedway. This event was open to guests before the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Event.

“This was definitely the biggest promotion we have done so far,” said Rick Benton. “This year we marketed with some strong partners and it definitely was the largest promotion of the year surrounding a USAR Hooter’s Pro Cup Event. Our marketing partners and sponsors for the hospitality village event included: BB&T, Carquest, Interstate Battery, Harold Wells Insurance, BFGoodrich, Shell, Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Federal Tire, Safety Kleen, Dean Tires, Truckwise, Dilmar Oil, East Coast Race Tires, Honeycutt Produce, USAR, WPDE News Channel 15, Surf 94.9, Unifirst Corporation, Napa, Gore Tire, Next Media, Qantum Communications and Gator 107.9. This was a great promotion together with our customers, vendors, and business associates.
